akarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Awi Setiyono said thousands of police officers, supported by Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel and Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) members had been deployed to secure 26 locations across the city.
“We’ve been prepared to anticipate all possibilities. The officers are on standby in 26 spots, such as at the State Palace, places around the National Monument [Monas], shopping malls and other areas prone to disruptions,” he said at the Monas square in Central Jakarta on Friday.
He further said the Transportation Agency, the Health Agency and Fire Department Agency officers were prepared to serve the members of the organizations taking part in the mass rally in Jakarta on Nov. 4.
“We hope we can serve both demonstrators and residents who do not join the protest. We hope none of our residents will have their activities disturbed today,” said Awi.
Thousands of members and sympathizers of Islamic organizations, including the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) and its supporters, are set to hit streets across Jakarta on Friday. In the rally, they will demand authorities to prosecute Ahok for his allegedly blasphemous remarks. (ebf)
