S

tate-owned geothermal producer PT Geo Dipa Energy (GDE) has pledged to implement good corporate governance in its operations following the inauguration of new executives on the company's management board.

In a press release sent to The Jakarta Post on Monday, GDE new president director Riki Firmandha Ibrahim said under his leadership, the company would ensure that its business model would always run in accordance with existing laws.

Last week, the Finance Ministry’s director general of state assets, Vincentius Sonny Loho, inaugurated Riki, a former finance director of petrochemical firm PT Tuban Petrochemical Industries, as the company’s top executive to replace Aidil Hasibuan, who now serves as GDE commissioner.

The company operates geothermal power plants in Dieng in East Java and Patuha in West Java. Its geothermal wells in Dieng and Patuha are estimated to have capacities of 800 megawatts (MW) and 400 MW, respectively

The country is estimated to have approximately around 29 gigawatts (GW) of geothermal potential and the government has targeted geothermal energy production of 7,156 MW by 2025. This would make the country the biggest geothermal energy producer in the world.

The government currently has a 93.33 percent stake in GDE, with state electricity firm PLN possessing the remaining 6.67 percent.

Along with Riki’s inauguration, the government has also appointed Dodi Herman, former general manager of GDE’s Patuha and Dieng units, as the GDE’s new operation and business development director. (hwa)
