ore supporters of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo reported House of Representative Deputy Speaker Fahri Hamzah to police for allegedly making a provocative speech during the mass rally on Nov. 4.
On Friday, Jokowi’s supporters grouped in Red and White Solidarity Group (Solmet) reported Fahri to the Jakarta Police’s headquarters.
Solmet chairman Silver Matutina said Fahri had tried to overthrow the legitimate government with his provocative speech on the rally.
"Fahri told protesters how to impeach Jokowi. He also told protesters that Jokowi has violated the law a couple of times," Silver told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
Fahri also said Jokowi had insulted Muslim figures and protected a non-Muslim person who had allegedly committed blasphemy, said Silver, adding that Fahri’s statements sparked hatred and unrest among the people.
Silver reported Fahri for allegedly violating Article 160 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on provocation.
The group also plans to report Fahri and deputy speaker Fadli Zon to the House's ethics council for their participation in the rally, he said.
On Wednesday, a Jokowi supporter group, the President’s Volunteer Forum (Bara JP) reported Fahri to the National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) for the alleged treason and provocation.
“In his speech, Fahri said there were two ways Jokowi could be impeached, through the legislature or through the ‘street legislature’. His speech was responded to enthusiastically by protesters, who shouted repeatedly, ‘Impeach Jokowi!’” Bara JP chairman Birgaldo Sinaga said on Wednesday. (bbn)
