he Jakarta Police have arrested a man for allegedly masterminding a scam targeting partygoers through a bogus website.
Jakarta Police mobile detective unit head Adj. Sr. Corm. Budi Hermanto said the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Lasellomo, or Omo, and his friends had set up a bogus website that resembled that of the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP), the nation’s biggest electronic dance music festival.
“We arrested him in Parepare, [South] Sulawesi,” Budi said, as quoted by tribunnews.com on Sunday evening.
Budi said the police were still expanding the investigation and were hoping to arrest other suspects.
Similar in design to the genuine website, djakartawarehouse.com, the bogus website, dwp2016.com, offered tickets for the event to be held next month at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
Budi said Omo and his group had defrauded partygoers of hundreds of millions of rupiah.
