akarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama fulfilled the National Police's summons for his first round of questioning as a blasphemy suspect on Tuesday morning.

Wearing a yellow batik shirt, the non-active governor arrived at the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) office in South Jakarta at 9 a.m. Entering the office with his lawyer, Sirra Prayuna, Ahok was without a comment for the journalists positioned outside the office.

Ahok’s campaign team spokesman, Ruhut Sitompul, said the governor fulfilled the police's summons to show his adherence to the law.

“Indonesia is a country based on the supremacy of law. We came here to comply with the law. We will follow the legal process, Pak Ahok will be cooperative in this case," Ruhut said at the National Police headquarters on Tuesday.

Ruhut thanked all parties, including the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Golkar, Nasdem and the Hanura Party, as well as the United Development Party (PPP) faction led by Djan Faridz, which provided lawyers for Ahok. He also credited those parties' loyalty, in which they had kept supporting Ahok despite his suspect status.

Meanwhile, National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said the police had questioned 24 witnesses after they named Ahok a suspect on Nov.16.

He said the police would make maximum efforts to complete the governor’s case dossier and submit it to prosecutors as soon as possible, as previously vowed by National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian. (ebf)
