H

ouse of Representatives Speaker Ade Komarudin has expressed his acceptance of the Golkar Party’s decision to replace him with party chairman Setya Novanto.

“Regarding the decision of the party’s headquarters, I am someone who is very obedient to Golkar’s regulations. As a cadre, I put the interests of the party before mine,” Ade told a press conference on Monday evening.

Ade made the announcement after hours of closed-door meeting with fellow House speakers to discuss an official letter submitted by Golkar about its decision to replace Ade with Setya, who had resigned from the position over an ethics case in connection with mining company PT Freeport Indonesia.

Setya was forced to give up the position after he was reported for ethics violations for allegedly requesting shares from Freeport Indonesia. However, the Constitutional Court later cleared him of all charges.

In the press briefing attended by deputy speakers Fadli Zon of the Gerindra Party, Fahri Hamzah of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and Taufik Kurniawan of the National Mandate Party (PAN), Ade announced, “For the sake of the unity of the nation as well as the [Golkar] party, I will follow the proper mechanism”.

The House is expected to approve Golkar's decision on Setya's reappointment at a plenary meeting this week. (jun)
