he Jakarta Police are preparing to reroute traffic along a number of the city’s thoroughfares to avoid congestion during a mass prayer at the National Monument (Monas) park, Central Jakarta, on Friday, which has been organized by several Muslim organizations on Friday to demand the arrest of Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama for alleged blasphemy.
"In anticipation of the prayer event at Monas, we are preparing traffic diversions so road users can go about their day without any disturbance," Jakarta Police Traffic Division head Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto said on Wednesday.
Traffic heading from Jl. Hayam Wuruk to Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat in the Monas area will be diverted to Jl. Juanda and Jl. Gunung Sahari or Lapangan Banteng park, Jl. Medan Merdeka Timur and Jl. Tugu Tani.
The traffic flow from Lapangan Banteng park to Jl. Veteran will be rerouted to Jl. Pos, while traffic from Jl. Gunung Sahari to Jl. Dr. Sutoyo will be directed to Jl. Senen Raya.
Vehicles from Jl. Senen Raya to Jl. Budi Utomo will be diverted to Jl. Gunung Sahari while traffic from Jl. Medan Merdeka Timur to Jl. Medan Merdeka Utara will be diverted to Jl. Perwira, Jl. Pasar Baru and Jl. Gunung Sahari.
Traffic from Simpang Lima Senin to Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) will be diverted to Jl. Senin Raya and Jl. Gunung Sahari while vehicles from Jl. Cikini Raya to Jl. Ridwan Rais and Jl. Kebon Sirih will be diverted to Jl. Kwitang Raya.(jun)
