he Tangerang city administration in Banten province has recently launched the local bus rapid transit (BRT) system called Trans Tangerang.
The administration hopes the new public transportation mode can help persuade commuters to shift from private vehicles to public transportation.
The first route launched by the administration was the Trans Tangerang Corridor I, which serves a 17-kilometer route connecting Poris Plawad and Jatiuwung.
However, in the first phase, the administration can only operate four buses. “Next year we will add six more buses,” Tangerang Mayor Sachrudinto told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.
The administration charges Rp 3,500 (26 US cents), the same amount as Transjakarta in Jakarta, while school students pay only Rp 1,000 per ride.
Trans Tangerang operates from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
