Agus woos Jakarta voters with three cash assistance programs

akarta gubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono promised to implement three fund assistance programs for Jakarta residents if he was elected, during his campaign visit to Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.
While talking with residents at the Tegal Parang hall, Agus reiterated that he would channel Rp 1 billion (US$74,892.4) per year to every community unit (RW) in the capital. The scheme was once deemed a form of “vote buying” by the city's Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).
"We plan to set aside Rp 1 billion from the city budget for each RW. The funds will be disbursed in the form of programs to help an RW repair its water sluice, for instance, or build open space for kids," Agus told the residents.
The eldest son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono added that each RW could send project proposals to the city administration.
The administration would then examine the proposals and do spot checks in the area before granting funds, Agus said.
He also announced a program to grant Rp 50 million to each small and medium enterprise (UMKM) in the city. He said he believed this fund assistance could reduce the number of unemployed people in the city.
Agus also promised to implement a so-called Direct Cash Assistance (BLS) program, which would be granted to low-income households in the city. He said that each poor family could receive Rp 5 million per year. (dmr)
