wo key players in the Indonesian national team, Stefano Lilipaly and Evan Dimas, said their squad was ready to play much-favored Thailand in the finals of the ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup 2016 soccer championship.
Lilipaly, who scored a goal during the semifinal match with Vietnam on Wednesday, said they would be playing all out, while admitting that Thailand’s was a tough team to beat.
"[The Thai players] will surely do their best to defend their title, but we hope we can play without much burden, so that we can beat them," Lilipaly was quoted as saying by Tempo.co.
Recalling an earlier match when Indonesia lost 2-4 to Thailand, Lilipaly said the Red and White squad could exploit weaknesses in Thailand's defense.
Evan Dimas said Thailand’s defense players were not quick to respond to wing attacks.
"We will exploit [that weakness] to beat Thailand," Evan said.
The two nations will face off in Bogor, West Java, on Dec. 14, before heading to Bangkok for the second leg of the finals on Dec. 17. (dmr)
