he Banyuwangi administration in East Java aims to welcome more than 2 million tourists by 2017 as its Jakarta-Banyuwangi direct flight route will be ready to operate next year.
Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas said his administration had continued to tap into tourism potential in the area, including by speeding up the development of the Marina Beach area and the construction of a women’s only beach club.
“We have received many requests for a female-only beach club from Middle Eastern tourists. Middle-income female tourists say they want to go to the beach but don’t feel as if they can do so freely. Therefore, we plan to build a beach club dedicated to female tourists and their families,” Abdullah said. Construction will start in 2017.
Banyuwangi welcomes 2 million tourists per year, up from 400,000 tourists in the previous year.
“The number of foreign tourists has passed 50,000 per year, far higher than only around 5,000 people in previous years. We will continue to increase foreign tourist visits through continuous promotion,” said Abdullah.
Pertamina deputy president director Ahmad Bambang said the company would add fuel tanks as there would be an increase in avtur consumption.
“In 2017, we will build a new fuel stand. But if it is not completed before the new flight route is opened, we will use small tanks. We will prepare fuel tanks with a capacity of 500,000 liters. It’s enough because one aircraft needs only 10,000 liters.” (ebf)
