undreds of women’s rights activists visited the campaign office of Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama on Jl. Taman Lembang, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, expressing their support for Ahok’s run for reelection in February next year.
“The pair of Ahok and Djarot [Saiful Hidayat] is a concrete example of diversity,” one of the activists, Saparinah Sadli, said.
Saparinah, who is former chairwoman of the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), said the activists believed the Ahok-Djarot pair had a good program for women.
“We are ready to help the pair to disseminate their programs until they are elected,” she said after giving a list of 436 activists’ signatures to Ahok.
Besides Saparinah, veteran feminist Ita F. Nadia and chairwoman of the Cahaya Guru Foundation Henny Supolo were among the activists who visited the campaign office.
Ahok thanked the activists, asking them for direction and criticism. “Thanks for the support. Please, give us direction and criticism if we make mistakes.” (jun)
