ndonesian humanitarian groups have intensified their measures to help civilians, who have suffered from atrocities in the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo, following deliberate and indiscriminate attacks by the Syrian government.

Humanitarian organizations have continued to call for donations from Indonesian groups and individuals to dispatch volunteers who are ready to provide aid to Syrians, in collaboration with local humanitarian initiatives.

The Jakarta-based humanitarian body Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT), an Indonesian groups concerned with the crisis in Syria, has sent four of its staff members to Syria via Turkey on Sunday to provide humanitarian assistance to people in the country.

ACT president Ahyudin said the four-member team, called Sympathy of Solidarity (SOS), was the 11th batch that the organization had delivered since conflicts sparked in Syria last year.

“We will continue to send help [to Syria]. We are focused on providing foods, clothes, tents and medicine,” Ahyudin said in a statement, calling for more financial donors.

He further said the ACT was preparing to set up a bread factory in Syria to ensure available food supplies for people in the country. In the long run, the humanitarian group will also set up a branch office in Istanbul to house volunteers willing to directly participate in humanitarian activities to ease the sufferings of Syrians, he added.

Similar aid initiatives have also been established by Jakarta-based philanthropic organization Dompet Dhuafa. The organization has also created an account to collect donations in order to supply medicine to Aleppo. (ebf)
