Prosecutors have urged judges to reject the refutation of charges delivered by Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and his lawyers in the first hearing of his blasphemy trial.

"The conveyed refutation was not based on the law and should be rejected," prosecutor Ali Mukartono said at Ahok’s second hearing at the North Jakarta District Court on Tuesday.

Today’s hearing heard the prosecutors' response to Ahok's refutation conveyed in his first hearing on Dec. 13.

Prosecutors said they rejected all of Ahok's and his lawyers' arguments and reasserted that Ahok had committed blasphemy in a remark on Surah Al Maidah, verse 51 of the Quran, during a work visit to Thousand Islands in late September.

Ali added that he hoped the judges would find that the prosecutor’s indictment against Ahok was legally acceptable.

Presiding judge Dwiarso Budi Santiarto decided to adjourn the trial until Dec. 27 with the agenda of reading the judges' interlocutory decision regarding Ahok's refutation. (dmr)
