Persipura Jayapura was triumphant at the 2016 Indonesian Soccer Championship (ISC), taking home the crown after beating PSM Makassar 4-2 in its last match on Sunday.
The championship, also known as the Torabika Soccer Championship Presented by IM3 Ooredoo (TSC) is the inaugural season of the ISC, a soccer competition that replaced the temporarily suspended Indonesia Super League. Eighteen clubs — mostly top flights — participated in the event.
The four final goals in Sunday’s bout were made by Yohanes Ferinando Pahabol in the 21st and 25th minute, Edward Wilson Junio in the 41st and Osvaldo Haay in the 45th. Meanwhile, PSM’s goals were contributed by Rasyid Bakri in the 86th and third minute during injury time, kompas.com reported.
The solid four goals in the final match boosted Persipura to the top of the leaderboard with 68 points from 34 matches.
Coming in second place was Arema Cronus with a total of 63 points, while Madura United clinched third place with 61 points.
