akarta gubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono has said his team will hold several events to raise campaign funds as recently released campaign fund reports revealed that Agus had raised the lowest amount all the candidates.

“We will carry out various activities, including charity events, and accept donations from individuals and organizations. We will collect money based on our needs,” Agus said during a campaign visit in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) announced that Agus and running mate Sylviana Murni had raised Rp 9.15 billion (US$ 678,813.51) from political parties, individuals and companies, far lower than two other candidate pairs.

Incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and his running mate, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, ranked top by collecting Rp 48 billion while Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno ranked second with Rp 35.6 billion.

Agus said the most important thing for him was to hold effective campaign activities, not merely collecting a huge amount of money.

“Why should we earn a huge amount of money? We will just use the money to support our campaign programs effectively, by example by holding a ‘town hall meeting’,” he said.

Besides holding frequent meetings with local residents in areas across Jakarta, Agus has conducted five political events in which he made speeches.

The events took place at the Djakarta Theater in Central Jakarta, Gelanggang Remaja in North Jakarta, Balai Kartini in South Jakarta, Dharmawangsa Hotel in South Jakarta and the Jakarta Convention Center in Central Jakarta. (ebf)
