ozens of female supporters of Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama conducted a clean-up activity in a densely populated area in Cipete, South Jakarta, on Monday.

Wearing t-shirts emblazoned with “Gadis Ahok” (Ahok’s girl), the women cleaned roads and gutters in the area in an activity aimed at raising awareness among residents of the importance of keeping the neighborhood clean.

“So if suddenly, we face flooding, we won’t blame our leader. Have we cleaned our neighborhood?” Gadis Ahok spokeswoman Dee Adnan said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Dee said the activity was also part of the group’s support for Ahok, who is currently being tried at the North Jakarta District Court for an alleged blasphemous statement he made at an event in Thousand Islands regency in September.

“You can show support without necessarily attending the trial, can’t you?” she added.

Residents appreciated the activity. “It’s good to remind us to clean our neighborhood,” Dian, a resident of Jl. Teladan, Cipete said.
