Greater Jakarta: Anies gives speech at FPI headquarters

J

akarta gubernatorial candidate Anies Baswedan utilized his visit to the headquarters of the hard-line Islam Defenders Front (FPI) in Petamburan, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, to clear up rumors he said aimed to discredit him.

The former culture and education minister denied being a follower of Syiah and the Liberal Islam Network (JIL).

“There is also an accusation that I’m a Wahabi follower. This is strange. How could I be a follower of Syiah and Wahabi at the same time?” he told the event, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The event was attended by hundreds of FPI followers, including their leader, firebrand cleric Rizieq Shihab.
