upporters of Jakarta soccer club Persija, popularly known as Jakmania, have asked gubernatorial candidate Sandiaga Uno not to build a soccer stadium on reclaimed islets in Jakarta Bay.
They said that while they appreciated Sandiaga’s plan to build an international-standard stadium in the capital, they want the businessman build it somewhere other than the man-made islets involved in Jakarta’s controversial reclamation project.
“We hope you will not build it on one of the [reclaimed] islets [to respect those adversely affected by the project],” said the supporters’ representative Kojek, as quoted by kompas.com.
Responding to the request, Sandiaga explained he would build the stadium at the BMW Park in Sunter, North Jakarta.
The Jakarta administration proposed a plan to build a stadium at the park in 2014 with the support of developer PT Agung Podomoro Land.
