tate airport operator Angkasa Pura (AP) II stated its intention to take over two airports, namely Tanjung Pandan Airport in Bangka Belitung and Raden Inten II Airport in Lampung.
“We have delivered the letters to the Transportation Ministry director general [of air transportation] to also conduct a survey of those airports,” AP II operational director Djoko Murjatmodjo said on Thursday.
He said the proposal was inspired by the commercial appeal of the state-run airports and the expansion of its current airport.
“For the airport in Lampung, it is close to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport [in Banten], so we hope it can be an alternative airport for the overflow of passengers. For the Tanjung Pandan airport, it is a tourism spot, so we want that, too,” Djoko added.
The firm would first see the operational burden and cost as well as the prospect of the airports to commence with the plan, although he admitted that based on initial research, both airports had not yielded a profit.
The Raden Inten II Airport is cited to see 1.3 million passengers annually, while the Tanjung Pandan Airport is cited to have 1 million passengers annually.
AP II is currently managing 13 airports across the country, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, which is one of the main gateways to the country. (bbn)
