he Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) is encouraging the public to observe the first official debate next week so that they can directly compare the quality and competence of the three gubernatorial hopefuls.
KPU Jakarta commissioner Dahliah Umar said the debate would illustrate the actual competence and quality of each candidate.
“Jakarta’s citizens are the main stakeholders in this gubernatorial election. The debate offers a chance for the public to assess the quality and competence of each candidate,” she said during a discussion on Saturday.
She said that apart from delivering their vision and mission, the debate session would also allow the candidates, namely Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni, Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno, to show their leadership abilities, including how they control their emotions and manners in presenting their ideas.
Dahliah said her commission had scheduled three debates before election day, with the first one slated for Jan. 13.
The first debate will be broadcast live on TV One, NET TV and Jawa Pos TV.
Dahliah assured those concerned that every candidate would participate in the debate, including Ahok. (evi)
