he busy street of Jl. Fatmawati in South Jakarta will be closed from Feb. 4 to Aug. 11 to make way for the construction of the Haji Nawi station for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system.
“We will reroute all traffic, [apply new] traffic management and close Jl. Fatmawati, because [the construction] needs space,” acting Jakarta governor Soemarsono stated on Monday.
PT MRT Jakarta director William P. Sabandar said private vehicles would be rerouted to Antasari or toward Pondok Indah during the road closure. A lane of around 3 meters in width along Jl. Fatmawati would remain accessible for “local residents and shop owners,” William said, as quoted by tempo.co.
He added that the technical details would be discussed in a meeting between the Jakarta Transportation Agency and the Jakarta Police’s traffic division on Friday.
The closure needed to be done soon in order to accelerate the MRT’s development. “Otherwise, the whole construction work could be delayed until August 2019,” William added.
