akarta gubernatorial candidate Anies Baswedan and his running mate, Sandiaga Uno, have highlighted education and employment opportunities as the main issues they would address should they be elected in the 2017 Jakarta election.

On the provision of job opportunities, Anies said they would activate a program called “One Kecamatan One Center Entrepreneurship” (OK-OCE).

“[We] will ensure that all local administration programs can run smoothly so they can absorb more workers,” Anies said as quoted by kompas.com during a visit to the Prosperous Justice Party’s (PKS) central executive board on Jl. TB Simatupang in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Tuesday evening.

Anies said he had resolved to improve education in Jakarta, especially to increase the quality of education, provide people with wider access to education and ensure the successful implementation of free basic education to the city’s residents.

“It is in our commitment to not only continue the Smart Jakarta Card [KJP] program but also to increase it to KJP Plus. It means all Jakarta residents will have better access to education, in which we also talk about the quality of education, not merely about access,” said Anies.

Meanwhile, Sandiaga said the number of participants in the OK-OCE training program had reached 3,000 of 5,000 people targeted. The program will help small entrepreneurs, from providing business assistance to financial capital of up to Rp 300 million (US$22,483).

“If there are people who say that Mas Anies-Sandi’s program is not applicable, I want to question such a judgment. Because this [OK-OCE] program is the only program from non-incumbent candidates that has been running,” said Sandiaga. (ebf)
