The Jakarta administration plans to build 6,000 new low-cost apartments this year.
Jakarta Public Housing and Settlement Agency head Arifin said the new apartments would be developed in five locations: two in Nagrak and Rorotan, North Jakarta; two in Penggilingan and Pulo Gebang, East Jakarta; and one in Pesing, West Jakarta.
Arifin said the call for tenders to find a construction contractor had already begun.
“We have readied the locations,” Arifin was quoted by the city’s official website, beritajakarta.com on Saturday.
According to Arifin, the agency will build 24 towers in total.
If completed, the new apartments would bring the total number of new apartments to 11,000 by the end of this year. The administration is currently completing the development of six other low-cost apartment towers initiated last year. (khk/dmr)
