A

survey conducted by pollster Indikator Politik Indonesia shows that Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and his running mate, Sylviana Murni, will likely suffer defeat in the first round of the Feb.15 race.

The candidate pair is the least favorable compared to its two competitors, Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno, in the survey, which involves 621 respondents, the pollster revealed on Friday.

According to the poll, only 19.45 percent of respondents will vote for Agus-Sylviana, following their lackluster performance during the second candidate debate on Jan. 27. Meanwhile, Ahok-Djarot’s approval rating hit 39.04 percent while the favorability rating of Anies-Sandiaga stands at 35.36 percent.

“In the debate, Ahok and Djarot received the most positive response, with an acceptance rate of 48 percent, while Anies and Agus got 36 percent and 11 percent, respectively,” said Burhanuddin Muhtadi of Indikator Politik Indonesia about the survey conducted between Feb.2 and Feb.8.

According to respondents surveyed during the debate, Agus appeared to struggle, while Ahok and Anies, were able to convey their programs effectively. Survey respondents also found Agus and Sylviana the least knowledge on Jakarta’s issues compared to the other candidates.

Once a front-runner in the race, according to several surveys, Agus has seen his electability continuously decrease after two debates held by the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta).

Experts believe the former military officer's lack of experience in politics has contributed to his mediocre performance during the debates. (ebf)
