he Sangihe Islands General Elections Commission (KPU Sangihe Islands) in North Sulawesi is scrambling to find ways to distribute election material on time before voting day on Wednesday following extreme weather that has hit Nusa Tabukan district.
KPU Sangihe Islands head Elsye Sinadia said the distribution team was still trying to reach Nusa Tabukan district.
“The boat used to carry the election logistics was still taking shelter from bad weather in Marore Island, which borders the Philippines. As of today [Tuesday], they still can’t make it to Nusa Tabukan,” said Elsye over the phone on Tuesday.

“KPU [Sangihe Islands] will deploy a boat owned by the Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) to assist the team to reach Nusa Tabukan. If this plan does not work, we will coordinate with Forkopimda [Regional Leadership Communication Forum] to use a warship [to deliver the ballots],” she went on.
The last resort, Elsye added, would be for the KPU to deploy a chopper. “We have the budget to rent a chopper. If it’s not possible to distribute the logistics by water, we will do it by air,” she added. (trw)
