he Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) destroyed 46,628 damaged and excess ballot papers found during the sorting process on Tuesday, one day before voting day.
Of this total, 22,444 were found to be damaged, while the remainder were excess to requirements.
“We destroyed these ballot papers one day before the election to ensure that there will not be any ballot papers other than those distributed to the 13,023 polling stations across the capital,” Sumarno said at the KPU Jakarta office, Paseban, Central Jakarta on Tuesday.
The event, which took place at the KPU Jakarta office, was witnessed by representatives of the Jakarta Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), the Jakarta Police and the Jakarta National and Political Unity Office (Kesbangpol).

KPU Jakarta earlier said that there were a total of 7,292,619 ballot papers for the Jakarta election, which included 7,108,589 for those on the final voter list (DPT), an additional 2.5 percent for each polling station and an extra 2,000 reserve ballot papers. (trw)
