s many as 401 patients from the Bina Laras Social Institution, which treats patients suffering from severe mental illness in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, will have an opportunity to cast their vote in the Jakarta gubernatorial election on Wednesday.

The West Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU) commission head Sunardi Sutrisno said on Tuesday the patients who were allowed to take part in the election had been given leave to do so by their doctors.

“Those who are going to vote are the ones in a better condition. For example, when I approached them, we could engage in a conversation,” Sunardi said as quoted by wartakotalive.com.

There are 800 patients registered at the institution, but only half of them are eligible to vote, he went on to say.

Sunardi added that on Wednesday the patients would vote at voting booths outside the institution.
