he Jakarta Environmental Agency is planning to turn a river section near Jl. Puri Indah, West Jakarta, into a tourist attraction this year.
The agency’s water management division head, Junjungan Sihombing, said on Saturday that the river section was suitable for tourist use because the river bank was clean as a result of routine maintenance. A food area and parking space around the section would also support the area.
“We are also planning to breed fish in the river section. The fish can be beneficial to the river’s ecosystem in addition to attracting visitors,” Junjungan said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Junjungan added that the agency would develop the tourist area with other agencies such as the culture and tourism agency.
Besides the section near Jl. Puri Indah, other waterways that have the potential to be developed into public spaces are the East Flood Canal and Rawa Dongkal reservoir in East Jakarta; Mangga Bolong reservoir in South Jakarta; and Melati reservoir in Central Jakarta. (kkk/wit)
