T

he National Police have prepared 10,000 personnel, including soldiers from the military, to secure King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud’s visit from March 1 to March 9.

The joint security team officers will be readied in three locations, namely Jakarta; Bogor, West Java; and Bali.

National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Syafruddin said he had explained the security details for the king’s visit to Saudi Arabian Ambassador Osama Muhammad Abdullah Al Shuaibi during their meeting on Monday.

The police chief said at least 2,000 personnel would be readied in Jakarta while 2,225 others would be prepared in Bogor. To secure King Salman’s visit in Bali, at least 5,000 personnel have been prepared.

Citing his experience as a military attaché in Indonesia, Al Shuaibi said he had no doubt in the capacity of the Indonesian Police to anticipate and prevent security disruptions.

“My confidence further increased after looking at recent security developments, in which a terrorist attack in Bandung could be contained only within two hours. I appreciate the works of [the National Police’s] Densus 88 counterterrorism unit,” Osama said.

He was referring to a security operation conducted by the West Java Police’s Mobile Brigade against a suspected terrorist, who detonated a bomb in a field near the Arjuna sub-district office in Cicendo district, Bandung, West Java, on Monday.

Syafruddin said securing the visits of state guests was among the National Police’s highest priorities. “We hope all events during the king’s visit will run smoothly,” Syafruddin said. (dis/ebf)
