K

ing Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud gave a two-minute speech in Arabic during a plenary meeting at the House of Representatives on Thursday.

In his speech King Salman said his visit to Indonesia was preceded by the visit of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to the kingdom in September 2015 alongside exchanges between high-ranking officials from the two countries.

“These were conducted to increase cooperation in all fields,” he said, after a welcome speech by House Speaker Setya Novanto.

King Salman arrived at the House at 1:06 p.m. and was welcomed by Setya and acting House secretary-general Achmad Djuned.

The Saudi king arrived with an entourage of around 200 people, including several princes. Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin accompanied the king on his visit.

Entering the House’s Nusantara building, Setya introduced King Salman to Regional Representatives Council Speaker Mohammad Saleh, People’s Consultative Assembly Speaker Zulkifli Hasan and four House deputy speakers, namely Fadli Zon, Taufik Kurniawan, Agus Hermanto and Fahri Hamzah.

Accompanied by Setya, King Salman signed a charter of arrival before going upstairs to the plenary hall. Political elites, including Democratic Party chairman and former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto, attended the historic visit.

King Salman was at the House less than 30 minutes before leaving for Istiqlal Mosque to pray with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. (ebf)
