angerang Police in Banten carried out a patrol in several spots on Thursday in an attempt to anticipate possible clashes between drivers of angkots (public minivans) with ride-hailing ojek (motorcycle taxi) app drivers.

“We will conduct patrols today,” Tangerang Police chief Sr. Comr. Harry Kurniawan said on Thursday as quoted by tempo.co.

The patrol, Harry said, was carried out to provide a sense of security to members of the public, who had been concerned about tension in the city following the clash of drivers from the two modes of transportation on Wednesday. However, Harry said that the situation had returned to normal and the clashing parties had made a truce.

Harry said that the drivers would return to their jobs in serving passengers commuting in the city. He clarified information that was circulating among citizens in the city, stating that another brawl would take place.

As earlier reported on Wednesday, thousands of angkot drivers staged a rally demanding the administration ban on ojek app operations. On the same occasion, several protesters intimidated a passing ojek app driver who was with a customer. They stopped the driver and forced the customer to get off the motorcycle before they stole the driver’s helmet and damaged it.

As a response, ojek drivers reportedly took revenge by damaging an angkot. (fac)
