A

team tasked to select executive members of the newly established Haj Fund Management Agency (BPKH) proposed 14 candidates to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the State Palace on Monday.

The 14 candidates are Ajar Susanto Broto, Andi Buchari, Ahmad Zacky, Rachmat Hidayat, Anggito Abimanyu, Donny Nuriawan, Benny Witjaksono, Teuku Umar Laksmana, Acep Riana Jayaprawira, Agus Sybarrudin, Iskandar Zulkarnain, Hendiarto, Moch. Jasin and Hurriyah El Islamy.

Jokowi has 10 days to choose seven of the proposed figures to fill strategic posts in the new body, including head of risk management and head of investment.

The BPKH, which will start operating this year, will manage Rp 90 trillion in haj funds by investing some of it in infrastructure projects.

A number of ministry officials and former ministers have been named graft suspects for abusing haj funds, including United Development Party (PPP) chairman Suryadharma Ali.
