T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has handed over the investigation into a case of alleged graft involving the procurement of surveillance satellite by the Maritime Security Board (Bakamla), which implicates the body’s chief Vice Admiral Arie Soedewo, to the Indonesian Military’s (TNI) own police (POM).

Arie’s alleged involvement in the graft case was stated on Merial Esa president director Fahmi Darmawansyah’s charge document, which was read out at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday. It was the third time that the Bakamla chief’s alleged involvement was mentioned.

It was stated in the document that Arie had asked for a fee of 7.5 percent of the total project value, which amounted to Rp 222.4 billion (US$16.65 million).

“On the handling of the Bakamla graft case, we have coordinated with the POM TNI. During the coordination, we have also conducted information and evidence exchanges,” KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah said as quoted by kompas.com in Jakarta on Monday.

As a result of the coordination, Febri said, the KPK had brought three suspects – all were non-military – to the court. They were Fahmi and his two staff members, Hardy Stefanus and Muhammad Adami Okta.

Meanwhile, the POM TNI has detained the Bakamla’s head of planning and organization bureau, Commodore Bambang Udoyo.  Bambang has been detained at the military police’s detention facility since Jan. 5.

Febri said it was possible for the KPK to present Bambang as a witness in the trial of the three suspects at the corruption court. However, it needed to first coordinate with the POM TNI to do so. (dis/ebf)
