he installation of a fence next week will mark the start of the Lapangan Banteng Park makeover plan in Central Jakarta, an official said on Tuesday.
“The revitalization will take place in four segments, namely fence installation, monument makeover, improvement of sports fields and parks,” said acting Jakarta governor Sumarsono as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Included in the revitalization plan is the construction of a bathroom with hot water, culinary center and public interaction spaces.
While the renovation of the existing soccer field and basketball court are aimed to attract more young people, “so youths can do carry out activities and use their talents here,” Sumarsono said.
The makeover of the historic Pembebasan Irian Barat (the liberation of Irian Barat, now West Papua) within the park will be discussed with the Jakarta Heritage Committee, the acting governor said.
He added that the fence installation would cost Rp 6.5 billion (US$487,000), while the field makeovers needed some Rp 6.3 billion. The project will be financed by funds from corporate social responsibility programs and fines collected from companies that breached building floor area ratios (KLB). (kkk)
