ouse of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto's name was mentioned in the second hearing of a graft case involving e-ID card procurement on Thursday by former Home Ministry secretary-general Diah Anggraeni, one of witnesses testifying.
Diah admitted in an earlier statement that she had received US$200,000 from Andi Agustinus, aka Narogong, a businessman involved in the procurement project.
In the hearing, Diah said Andi went to her office. When she refused to take the money, Diah said the businessman left the money at her office. She further told the court that she had turned the money over to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) during its investigation into the case.

Prosecutors also asked Diah whether there were other meetings between her and Andi apart from the meeting at her office. Diah said she remembered the ministry’s former director general for population and civil registration Irman reminded her that she was invited to a meeting at which Andi, Setya, Irman and Sugiharto, another Home Ministry official, were also present.
Irman and Sugiharto are two Home Ministry officials on trial in the case.
“[...] Setya said: ‘At the Home Ministry there is an e-ID program, which is a strategic national program. Let us safeguard it,’” said Diah.
Andi allegedly cut a deal with Setya and then Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum and treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin that only 51 percent of the Rp 5.9 trillion budget allocated for the project would be used. The remaining 29 percent was to be distributed to dozens of lawmakers, Home Ministry officials and partner companies. (mrc/ebf)
