ndonesian authorities have encouraged citizens to pay more attention to their children following the recent dismantling by police of a closed Facebook page called the Official Candy’s Group, which had 7,000 members and allegedly contained hundreds of videos and photographs considered to be child pornography.
The government and the Indonesian Commission on Child Protection (KPAI) urged citizens to take proper measures when encountering footage and images depicting sexual abuse of children and pornography in general, such as by reporting the depictions to the authorities.
“Children who lack attention from their parents or guardians would turn to the nearest people to look for attention and possibly end up being sexually abused,” KPAI head Asrorun Ni'am Soleh said at a press conference on Tuesday.
The Information and Communications Ministry also invited citizens to contribute more to prevent the spread of pornographic material.
“In some cases, residents could have discovered sexually explicit contents before us," said ministry spokesperson Noor Iza said.

Therefore, Noor added, the ministry was encouraging people to become its ‘early warning system', by quickly reporting the improper contents that needed to be blocked.
The ministry has created a hotline for those citizens who want to send reports regarding footage and images containing pornography. (dea/dan)
