akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama's campaign team has urged the Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) to monitor mosques for possible political campaigning.
“Panwaslu better monitor covert campaigning at houses of worship such as mosques,” Ahok's campaign team spokesman, Bestari Barus, said on Wednesday, referring to the fact that Ahok’s contender, Anies Baswedan, often campaigned at mosques.
Bestari was responding to a statement by East Jakarta Panwaslu on the alleged violation of election campaign rules by Ahok’s wife, Veronica Tan, after she attended a NasDem Party charity event on March 16.

Earlier, Panwaslu stated that it would follow up on a report by Cipinang Melayu residents in East Jakarta accusing Veronica of violating election campaign rules by attending a charity event held by NasDem, one of Ahok’s endorsing parties.
Bestari said Veronica did not breach any rules when she attended the event at an integrated health services post (posyandu) in Cipinang Melayu. “Posyandu is not a facility that belongs to the state,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
