he Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) is set to engage the public in preparing questions for the two gubernatorial candidate pairs ahead of the final official debate slated for April 12.
KPU Jakarta head Sumarno said unlike previous debates, all questions for which were prepared by panelists, the final debate questions would raise questions from the public.
“The debate theme will be ‘from residents to Jakarta’, in which residents may deliver their questions to the candidates,” Sumarno said on Tuesday at his office in Salemba, Central Jakarta.
Sumarno said further that the commission would select several people who had limited access to the Jakarta administration and to economic and social facilities to participate in formulating the debate questions.
"We may engage laborers, auxiliary teachers who have not been promoted for years as well as street vendors in preparing the questions," Sumarno said.
All of the engaged residents should also be neutral parties with no political party affiliation.
Therefore, the commission will form a special team to select the residents who fulfill the requirements set by KPU Jakarta, he said.
Sumarno went on to say that the appointed panelists would assist the residents in formulating the questions to make sure they did not discredit or attack any candidate.
The residents will have the chance to directly ask their questions during the debate, Sumarno said.
The venue for the debate has not been determined.
