he Jakarta Police arrested four people on Thursday evening, a day before a large rally initiated by the Muslim People’s Forum (FUI) to demand the dismissal of Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama.
Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono confirmed the arrest of FUI secretary-general Al Khaththath and four other activists, identified by the initials ZA, IR, V, N.
"Yes. They were arrested for conspiracy to commit treason," Argo said at the National Monument (Monas) park, Central Jakarta, on Friday.
Argo added that the suspects were being detained at the Mobile Brigade Command detention center (Mako Brimob) in Kelapa Dua, Depok.
The investigation will start once their lawyers arrive, he said. (cal)
