View all search resultshe Constitutional Court has declared former Free Aceh Movement (GAM) leader Irwandi Yusuf and his running mate Nova Iriansyah as the governor and vice governor of Aceh, ending a dispute filed by rival candidate pair Muzakkir Manaf and TA Khaled.
The court rejected on Tuesday the dispute, saying that it had no legal standing as it did not fulfill the threshold of 1.5 percent of votes in the province as required by Article 158 (1) of the Regional Elections Law.
“The decision is final and legally binding,” lawyer of the winning pair Sayuti Abubakar said in a statement, adding that Irwandi and Nova have now officially become the new governor and vice governor of Aceh for the 2017-2022 period.

It is the second time that Irwandi Yusuf will serve as the governor of the westernmost province of Indonesia. (dis/dan)
