he Jakarta administration is gearing up to improve the facilities of the Pulogebang bus terminal in East Jakarta in order to serve citizens during the Ramadhan fasting month’s tradition of mudik (exodus), which will take place in about two months.
"Improvement of necessary facilities [of the terminal] must be sped up," said Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat as quoted by beritajakarta.com on Wednesday.
Mudik is a common tradition among residents of big cities. In Jakarta alone, hundreds of thousands of residents leave the capital at the same time each year to celebrate Idul Fitri after the fasting month in their hometowns with their extended families.
According to Djarot, one of the facilities in need of improvement was the information boards inside the terminal. He said the administration planned to update them with digital LED boards similar to those in airports.
"We also need to add more bus lanes and more Transjakarta feeder buses," he said.
The Transportation Ministry, he said, had agreed to leave the management of the terminal to the city administration.
"We must take good care of this 12-hectare terminal," Djarot added. (dea)
