hree hikers were struck by lightning on Mount Kencana in Bogor, West Java, resulting in burns to up to 50 percent of their bodies.

Bekasi residents Saepul Anwar, 22, Muhammad Iqbal,17, Rizal Arkowi,21, were on the mountain slope when lightning struck on Monday evening.

Iqbal suffered the most severe burns and is being treated at Cibereum Hospital in Bogor. 

"Iqbal suffered burns to approximately 50 percent of his body," Saepul said Tuesday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com. 

According to Saepul, he and 11 friends planned to hike on the slopes of Mount Kencana on Monday, which was public holiday.

However, they used a tarpaulin to shelter from a heavy afternoon downpour. Nine of them took shelter under the tarpaulin and were safe. The other three were threw a few meters by the lightening.  (wnd)
