nvestment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chairman Thomas Lembong has said that inconsistent derivative regulations issued at the ministerial level have hampered the government’s efforts to attract investors.
“For us, unstable and inconsistent regulations have prevented the entry of investment,” said Thomas in Jakarta as reported by tribunnews.com on Wednesday.
He noted that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had demanded that his ministers deregulate their respective institutions, but many new regulations issued by ministries and other government institutions had degraded the investment climate.
“The President has demanded transparency in issuing regulations. Don’t shock people. There should be public consultation before any regulations are issued,” he said.
Interest in investing in Indonesia is still high, however. Thomas expressed his optimism that the country’s 2017 investment target could be achieved. (bbn)
