ndonesia’s permanent delegation office to UNESCO in Paris, France, has launched a children’s book that promotes the beauty and richness of culture and wildlife in the country.
The book, entitled Komodo Mau Main Musik (Komodo Wants to Play Music), aims to introduce Indonesian culture to children aged 3 to 8 worldwide, Indonesia’s UNESCO office said in a statement on Friday.
The book launch coincided with the 40th anniversary of Komodo National Park’s inclusion in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR). The publishing of the book also marked the 26th anniversary of the national park’s inclusion on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List.
Published in Indonesian, English and French, the book presents a Komodo dragon, orangutan and an Indonesian teenager that live surrounded by the richness of Indonesia’s culture and nature.
“Through this book, we want to introduce rare animal species from Indonesia, such as orangutan and Komodo dragon, as well as various musical instruments angklung [bamboo made musical instrument], suling [flute], sasando [a stringed bamboo tube covered with palm leaves] and gamelan [traditional Javanese music instrument],” Indonesia deputy ambassador for UNESCO TA Fauzi Soelaiman said during the book launch on Wednesday.
The book’s author, Felicia Nayoan Siregar, said “ Komodo Wants to Play Music was part of a series of five books. The first book was released in 2013. Astri Sefrina van Eenbergen, the illustrator of the book, attended the book launch. (ebf)
