Greater Jakarta: Police find ecstasy pills at nightclub

J

akarta Police narcotics unit found people carrying drugs at Exotic nightclub in Mangga Besar, Central Jakarta, during a series of raids on several nightclubs and karaoke parlors in the city late on Wednesday.

The police discovered one male clubgoer carrying two ecstasy pills, while one female clubgoer was found to be carrying one pill of ecstasy.

“The male clubgoer was identified as Nurasli, 47, while the female was identified as Ambarsari Setianingsih, 19. Nurasli lives in Kemayoran while Ambarsari is from Klaten,” Jakarta Police narcotics unit director Sr. Comr. Nico Afinta said as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday.

Besides confiscating the ecstasy pills, the police also conducted urine tests on the nightclub’s 88 visitors. Seven clubgoers tested positive, indicating they were using drugs, while the rest tested negative.

The police also conducted urine tests in other nightclubs and karaoke parlors, such as Healling and Hollywood karaoke parlors in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. From the tests, the police found one visitor had consumed drugs.

Meanwhile, four out of 35 clubgoers at Jenja nightclub in Cilandak, South Jakarta, tested positive for benzodiazepine.

Nine people at Grand LA, New Royal and Sari Ayu nightclubs in West Jakarta also tested positive for drugs.

“We haven’t conducted raids in East Jakarta because we were focusing on [the twin bombing attack in] Kampung Melayu,” Nico said.

Those who tested positive for drugs will be handed over to the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) to undergo rehabilitation processes.
