uthorities have temporarily closed Aminggaru Airport in Ilaga, Puncak regency, Papua, after broken landing gear forced a Cessna 208 Caravan PK-MPS belonging to non-profit organization Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) to skid on the runway on Tuesday morning.

The aircraft, carrying four people from Nabire Airport, failed to land safely at 8:25 a.m., local time, Aminggaru Airport head Dani Joko said, adding that as of Tuesday afternoon, the aircraft had not yet been removed from the runway.

“The pilot chief and technicians from MAF have arrived on location, but since they lack certain tools and equipment, we are waiting for support from Sentani. The support will arrive tomorrow morning,” he told The Jakarta Post via a text message.

A representative from the Papuan chapter of the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT), Norbert Tunyanan, said the landing gear of the aircraft broke just as the plane was about to land.

There are no casualties.

The incident is the fourth such incident in Papua so far in 2017. (rin)
