Singer-turned-actress Julia Perez, widely known as Jupe, died on Saturday morning after a long battle with cervical cancer.

Julia’s passing was announced by her sister, Nia Anggia, via her Instagram account.

Innalillahi wa inna ‘ilaihi roji’un [We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return]. Our beloved sister, Julia Perez, has passed away. Please pray for her. Thank you all for your support. I LOVE YOU YULI,” Nia wrote.

Julia underwent surgery at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital on Friday. She underwent previous medical treatment in a Singapore hospital.

Julia was born in Jakarta on July 15, 1980. She was the eldest of three born to Angkasa Jaya and Sri Wulansih, former soccer and volleyball players.

Julia appeared in several comedy shows and movies, including Arwah Goyang Karawang (The Dancing Spirit of Karawang).

She obtained a Bachelor of law from the University of Bung Karno, Jakarta, in 2015 and was married to Argentine soccer player Gaston Castaño before divorcing in 2016. (ebf)
