A

viation Security authorities of Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, thwarted the delivery of 500 detonators placed inside cardboard boxes.

“We received reports from the airport security officers that they found three packages of goods suspected to be detonators,” South Sulawesi Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Dicky Sondani said on Sunday as reported by antaranews.com.

The packages were to be delivered on a Garuda Indonesia flight from Makassar to Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

Dicky said the detonators were ready to be delivered through logistics company Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir (JNE). No suspicions arose when the officials weighed the packages labeled as containing documents and food at the airport’s cargo bay.

However, the authorities found something peculiar as they checked the packages with an X-ray machine. They then asked the courier to open the boxes. The airport officers found the detonators covered in cartons and cake wrappers, which prompted them to move the packages to an empty secure area, Dicky said.

No information was forthcoming about the purpose of the delivery. (rin)
