Boeing 737-800NG aircraft from Malaysia Airlines made a hard landing at Soekarno Hatta International Airport on Tuesday, resulting in the closure of the northern runway.
"It happened at around 8 a.m. When Malaysia Airlines landed on the northern runway and was about to exit the runway onto the apron, [the plane’s] tire exploded," Yado Yarismano, public relations manager of airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II, said on Tuesday evening.
He said that due to the incident, the runway had to be temporarily closed to allow technicians to replace the tire.
The airport’s Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) stated that the closure would be until 10 p.m., but by 10.15 p.m., that the process to replace the aircraft tire was still ongoing.
He said that the incident did not affect other flights as there was still a functioning runway in the southern part of the airport.
The Malaysian Airline aircraft had arrived from Kuala Lumpur. (dmr)
